Picture of the Week: Yining Pit Stop
Bathroom Break Xinjiang-Style by Josh
When you're making your way through the Tian Shan mountain range sometimes it's difficult to find a good Cracker Barrel or Love's Travel Stop when nature calls. Instead, just stop the bus in the middle of the road and let everybody try to find their own private "watering hole". Awkward, but convenient.
This particular bus was on its way from Yining city (also known as Yili) to a smaller village hugging the border of Kazakhstan. As you can see, all our luggage was piled on the roof to freeze while we traveled.

Here I was about to post a comment saying I plan to get to Xinjiang someday and you throw in this post about finding your own waterhole, in the flat, bare ground, surrounded by snow...YIKES!
love this photo LOVE it, LOVE it, LOVE it. Makes me want to pack my rucksac and get on the first flight out of here. It sums up what travelling means to me ... one day with a small bag and a honda 70 I shall come here :-)
@TTWC - Aww, come on! It's exciting! It may seem a bit uncomfortable, but believe it or not you adjust very quickly.
@wgaw - I absolutely, definitely agree! Glad you loved it!
