Picture of the Week: Xinjiang in the Winter
It's almost March and snow still covers the ground here in northern Xinjiang. This photo, taken right outside 石河子 or "Shihezi", a couple hours northwest of Uruqmi, is a beautiful representation of a rural road (which in this case is a toll road!) covered by Xinjiang's winter. Thanks to PodPro (Zihan) for sharing this part of his great Flickr Photostream.

Are all those photos from Shihezi.Looks like they had a late winter there?
From what he told me, all of the winter photos are from Shihezi (his hometown), although they were taken earlier this winter. That being said, winter has been very late here and snow has been falling non-stop from December through February.
I want it to warm up, darn it!!
Have you tried the ski-ing there yet Josh?
Looks like there could be some nice spring ski-ing coming up ? at least it will be warmer than the -5 to -20 they where getting last week.
Nice to see the real snow. Not like the fake snow in Beijing! :)
Incredible photo. Crisp, stark, jagged, remote all at once.
I like very much your article, thanks a lot!
