Picture of the Week: Endless Highway

A mountainous highway near Yili

Snow is beginning to fall all over the Xinjiang province and is usually especially heavy near the mountainous regions.  Some highways are either closed or difficult to pass during the winter season while others, including this highway leading to a small village on the Kazakh border, remain wide open.

It's quite incredible to look out the front window of the bus and feel like you're driving directly into the mountains.  Some parts of these roads are so flat, straight and long that you could be viewing this scene for more than 30 minutes going 80 km/hr and it wouldn't noticably change.
