To all you teachers out there reading this...Happy Teacher's Day. I don't think this is considered an official holiday in China although I do believe it lands on the same date every year. Altogether its a great idea and we've enjoyed each of the three we've been a part of, but I think it could use some tweaking.
Our week has been pretty busy so far and we're already a bit tired, so this small break in the normal cycle of teaching was welcome. Most teachers end up receiving small gifts from students throughout the day and some even receive large bouquets of flowers. Tiff and I were given a few roses, a card, and a key chain - all gifts which carried more value because of who gave them rather than what was paid for them. How can you not love it when a 5 year old comes up to you with a rose, grinning from ear to ear, and says to you "Here...teeechur"?
My only complaint is how early this "holiday" is celebrated - we just started teaching 2 weeks ago! It's like having the All-Star game during the second week of the season. I feel like I'm getting a thank you for work I have yet to do with the knowledge that I may not get another one before the year-end, but I'm personally ok with that. If I wasn't, I would have quit teaching a while ago.
Of course, it doesn't hurt knowing that this weekend is a three day weekend thanks to "Mid-Autumn Festival", a day when we'll be swimming in mooncakes. If you don't remember what mooncakes are, don't worry...we'll take a picture of our growing stash and post it later to remind you.

Sounds like you had a good Teachers' Day. Most I got was a cheesy and mis-spelled message on the blackboard.
And have a good Mid-Autumn Festival, too.
